Learn a fun, creative use for old bowling balls in your garden!

Create a mosaic gazing ball from an old bowling ball - it is easy and fun to do!

Mosaic crafts have been around since the 4th century BC and are simply images created with small pieces of glass or tile. Mosaics are everywhere from cathedrals to homes, from the Romans to the Asians to the Europeans.

Mosaic crafts for the garden include gazing balls, stepping stones, benches, bird baths, fountains, pots, and many more. Making gazing balls from old bowling balls is a great way to recycle old bowling balls. They are sturdier than regular gazing balls and don’t get knocked off their stands as easily.

The craft of mosaic is very simple - it just starts with small pieces of glass, tile or stone; a clean, dry surface and an idea. A lot of artistic talent is not required for mosaics; mosaic allows the beginner artist to be extremely creative without having a lot of artistic training. Anyone can do mosaic crafts! Mosaics are fun to create, display and add a personal touch to your garden!

Chunks of Glass was started as a way to share the fun of creating bowling ball mosaics.  I learned how to make mosaics at a local stained glass shop in 2007.  So, take a look around and find bowling balls for sale, a gallery of completed projects, instructions on how to make your own and plenty of supply resources.  Take a few minutes and learn more about exciting mosaic crafts!
